WHO AM I? AND WHY?

My name is Marc. I am an Art Director / AI Image Creator / Photographer / Retoucher / Photoshop Artist / Web Designer / Visual Effects Artist / Director based in Berlin, Germany. That may sound a little bit pretentious if you read for the first time but sometimes it is a little bit difficult for me to pinpoint what I do because I work in so many different areas that it is hard for people to pigeonhole me.
I was once asked in an interview by his client Fiverr if I see myself as a »generalist« or a »specialist« and I struggled with my answer because I see myself as a generalist who is kind of specialized in everything. I try to avoid being boxed into one profession admitting I have always had many irons in the fire because I tend to get bored by always doing the same kind of things over and over again.
I am basically a »jack of all trades« - but NOT necessarily a »master of none«. You could call me a generalist rather than a specialist but even that is only half the truth because in some areas - like photography - I accumulated a lot of knowledge that I would call myself an expert in.
In the past I worked as a lighting technician, then later as director for lots of national and international TV commercials and sometimes even as a visual effects artist (e.g. for the streaming show »Blackout« with Moritz Bleibtreu & Jessica Schwarz). Generally you could describe me as a computer nerd who sometimes writes his own CSS code for websites I design for clients.
With my knowledge and experience in film and photography lighting I can set up a big photo set with 10 strobes or more but sometimes I am happy to operate with just one simple polystyrene reflector when the circumstances call for it.
Once the photography is done I harry potter my way through postproduction with my favorite wizardry apps like Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, sometimes After Effects and recently some AI tools that I included in my digital toolkit. I also deliver websites for small business owners and creatives along the way with my tool of choice: Squarespace. So because it is hard to pin me down on one creative endeavour one could say I am truly specialized in everything.
But in the end labels are meaningless and one’s work should speak for itself. So check out my portfolios and decide for yourself what I am in your opinion. I also work as an art director & photoshop senior artist for SOAP IMAGES – a bureau for image creation from idea to final artwork in the entertainment industry – in short: we do film posters and shoot actors (with a camera).

I have an international client base and I am a visual artist and it is a challenge for me to write text. So I rather prefer to write only one blog post in one language at a time. Therefore at – least for now – there will be no german version of my blog. If you read up to this point I guess you kind of mastered the english language to a certain degree. And if not – you will never know about this conundrum.
